Are people seriously doing the “WELL DON’T WHINE ABOUT IT DO IT YOURSELF BLUH BLUH” dance at you? Good grief. Aside from the fact that not being a creator doesn’t exclude you from being critical of representation in media, I just. Wow. It makes it painfully obvious that that particular line is more about trying to shut people up than actually giving a damn about diversity :/

Plus, not everyone wants to be a writer. Not everyone can be a writer. You shouldn’t have to be a writer in order to want to read something better than what you’re given. You don’t have to be a master chef to know if food is rotten.

Fairy rings occupy a prominent place in European folklore as the location of gateways into elfin kingdoms, or places where elves gather and dance. According to the folklore, a fairy ring appears when a fairy, pixie, or elf appears. It will disappear without trace in less than five days, but if an observer waits for the elf to return to the ring, he or she may be able to capture it. They are soooooo beautiful!

fairy rings are usually caused by decaying organic matter, generally a tree stump. many types of fungi have symbiotic relationships with tree roots and mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of such fungus. So if a huge old tree was cut down, you’ll often find fairy rings. they can last for years and years as the earth  reabsorbs all the nutrients left behind by the beautiful tree.

sorry, didn’t mean to crush dreams – but i have a degree in horticulture and i was really excited when i first learned this.

maybe fairies and fungi are joining together to mourn the loss of the tree

xo

NO BUT FINDING OUT ABOUT WHY FAIRY RINGS EXIST IS ALSO REALLY COOL.

From a writer’s perspective, it’s even more interesting to find out why they exist on a horticultural level, because it opens up a whole realm of fictional possibilities. Science doesn’t have to invalidate mythology or fiction, no more than mythology or fiction invalidates science.

For example, doesn’t that just essentially make this a tree grave? And if folklore has taught us anything, it’s that “fairies” and other spirits usually occupy trees, or have them as their life force. And that’s to say nothing of the folklore of trees being spirits in and of themselves, or kitsunes that live in tree hollows, or dryads, etc., etc.. So, if it’s disrespectful or feels like a slight to step on human graves, wouldn’t that logic transfer to stepping inside the Fairy Circle, AKA, the tree’s grave? It’s essentially giving more fuel to the story, not detracting from it, in my humble opinion!

Science doesn’t have to invalidate mythology or fiction, no more than mythology or fiction invalidates science.

Hello, friends.

I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about my Redbubble page and officially open it to the tumblr community.

I started this page because I had a few simple ideas for some Glee ship iPhone cases, and a few wonderful people have already bought some of my designs. I’ve decided that I want to expand the page and include a few more fandom designs, as well as some original designs, like the one you see on the bottom right.

As of right now, I don’t really have a lot of time on my hands, so my shop is still pretty small. However, I’m hoping to work on it a little bit at a time and gradually ad some more designs to my portfolio. Currently, you can find designs for Faberry, Brittana, Quinntana, Julyberry, and Finn Hudson on my page. I have plans to add to that list, but I’m also open to requests. Most of the designs are available as phone cases, and some are available as t-shirts and stickers as well.

If you do have something you’d like me to make so that you can purchase it, please feel free to message me on Redbubble or here at tumblr. If you could, I’d like you to be as specific as possible with what you want (phone case/t-shirt/sticker, etc., colors, designs, text, anything else that you want). Keep in mind that I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination and my Photoshop skills are pretty rudimentary, but I will do my best to create the design that you want for you.

Thanks for your time, and thanks for shopping!

We look to books to take us to new places, to meet new people, to have new experiences. Yes. But we also look to books to find ourselves. To see yourself, your life experience, a face or name like yours in a book means something. I’m an adult who didn’t experience this as a child, and I still get goosebumps when I see a character that resembles me in a book. It legitimizes your place wherever you are. If you don’t understand this, if you can’t empathize with someone’s need for this sense of recognition, it’s because you have the privilege to not understand or care.

My brother killed himself
on the twenty-eighth Thursday of last year
and I missed four days of work
and my mom wanted to know ‘Why’.
My brother
he was always a fan of beauty
but what he did
was not beautiful at all.

And last week I got the news
that one of my good friends from high school
had overdosed
(again)
except this time
she’d gone too far
and now she was gone.
And I had a hard time falling asleep at night
and her mother
hugged me tight
and thanked me for coming to the service
but I did not
want to be there at all.
This is not
beautiful.

The girl down the street
would’ve turned 21 last year
and I can scarcely imagine
the wild times she would’ve
(should’ve)
had.
But she is buried six feet deep
after falling nearly 300
and she did not leave a note.
This is not
beautiful.

My freshman year of college
and my roommate was beautiful
and how I wanted to be just like her.
But she wore herself down
till she was

almost invisible
and if you blinked
you had to go and find her all over again.
So now her parents are no longer supporting her college tuition
but are paying her hospital bills
watching their daughter crumble.
This is not
beautiful.

So y’all can take your narcissistic
romanticizing
and glamorizing
of self harm and eating disorders and committing suicide
and shove them as far up your ass
as you possibly can.
Starvation is not beautiful.
Killing yourself is not beautiful.
Sadness
is not beautiful.
This note I am writing
is not beautiful.

But you
you are beautiful
and it’s about damn time you start believing it.
