What is Kara like when she’s pregnant?

At first Kara seems unaffected by her pregnancy. No nausea,
no aches or pains or inconvenient mood swings. Of course she credits it all to
her superior kyptonian genetics. No way she is going to be effected by
something as trivial as reproductive biology. Everyone nods sagely and agrees,
because they’ve all heard Alex bitching about how unfair it is that Kara was
genetically engineered for perfection, so it all makes sense.

Except for Alex. She doesn’t believe a word of it. She knows
Kara, she listened to Kara’s stories about growing up on Krypton and about
codex and the birthing chambers. She knows Kal-El was the first natural birth
in millennia, she knows how scandalous it was and she remembers Kara’s stories
about how Laura suffered through her pregnancy. She also knows what Kara looks
like when she is in denial and she can see her kryptonian is swimming in it.

When Alex tries to warn the others they don’t believe her,
because clearly Kara knows better, she is the kryptonian after all. Her ‘wanna
bet?’ becomes lots of bets, lots and lots of bets, at the DEO, CatCo, the alien
bar, everywhere. And Kara is so calm and unfazed that no one can believe that
she’ll end up hormonal, so they take the bets. But Alex knows Kara, and she
knows it’s only a matter of time, so she racks up the bets. Vasquez is the only
one who wont touch the bet, she knows better than to discount Alex when it
comes to Kara, she makes a few modest bets herself and uses her winnings for a
great baby present. Alex almost ashamed by how much money she is going to make,
but with a half kryptonian bun in Kara’s oven she knows their food bills are
going to go through the roof and her winnings are going to make a good start.

And then it happens, Kara wakes in the middle of the night
and she can hear a noise. A soft, soothing, rhythmic noise. It takes an
embarrassingly long time for her to realise it’s her baby’s heart beat, but
when she does, the wall crumbles and she is hit by the feels. All of the feels!
Alex is woken by the subsequent scream of “Holy Rao, I’m pregnant!” and spends
the rest of the night comforting Kara through the waves of tears, joy and panic
as reality sets in.

The next day the morning sickness hits with a vengeance,
quickly followed by mood swings and cravings and all the other stereotypical
symptoms. Kara is mortified at being a slave to her biology after all, but
people learn pretty quickly not to bring it up because, oh my god kryptonian
mood swings are scary. ‘Do not piss off the pregnant alien with heat vision’
becomes the new, unofficial, super-friends & DEO mantra.

Kara spends a lot of time painting and drawing, mainly scenes of krypton & her family. She has never been able to paint her family before, but now she finds it helps her feel closer to those she lost, and having their pictures on the wall makes it feel like they are somehow involved in the pregnancy. She also designs some kryptonian styled baby clothes which Winn makes for her. Clark gets the designs for traditional baby furniture from Kelex & the Jor-El A.I. and uses his farm boy skills to make them.

The clash when J’onn & Alex benched Supergirl has become
a DEO legend, but all known CCTV & sound recordings have been destroyed. No
one mentions it anywhere near the three of them, and they have learned the hard
way not to talk about it when Supergirl in on base (yes, her hearing really is
that good – see note about not pissing off the pregnant alien with heat vision).

Things calm down by the third trimester and the last few
months are relatively smooth sailing again, though she does burst into tears
every time she hears about a cat caught in a tree & they won’t let her go
save it because Supergirl has been benched. Luckily J’onn is completely wrapped
around her fingers by this stage and he becomes very good at saving wayward
animals on her behalf. (The teary relieved look and the hug he gets when he returns
makes it all worth it.)

Kara is inconsolable when her pregnancy makes the taste of
pot stickers change. At first she is sure that the shop changed the recipe and
Supergirl makes a personal appearance at the store to make them change it back.
They swear black & blue they haven’t changed a thing, & all the super
friends agree they still taste the same to them. There is a bit of muttering
about inferior human tastebuds, but she can tell the cook is telling the truth.
She is still half convinced that she is being pranked until Alex orders
potstickers from every store in National City and she realises they all taste
equally weird and has to admit she is the one that has changed.

Lena & Cat try to cheer her up by taking her on tours of
the city’s food outlets, ordering one of everything on the menu so she can find
some new favourites. Kara knows they are really just trying to get some veggies
& other healthy food into her, but the baby is making her hungry enough to
go along with it. She’s ends up horrified when her new favourite turns out to
be a vegetarian dish… With tofu! ‘Oh my Rao Alex, I’m eating tofu, this kid has
destroyed my tastebuds, please kill me now!’ Alex thinks it is hilarious and mocks
her about it at any opportunity. It’s also a great chance to resurrect her
childhood tease about Kara being part sun loving plant and calls her a cannibal
for eating her photosynthesis brethren. Alex gets very good at dodging pillows, and spends a lot of money on apology ice cream. At least pizza still tastes good.

One of the first things Alex did after learning Kara was
pregnant was enrolling in a massage class. By the time the muscle aches and
pains kick in Alex is a master and her magic massages have saved her from a melted face more than once. That, plus the line of kyrptonian proof toys and baby
products she (and Winn) have been making mean that she can get away with a lot
more than anyone else. Alex likes to think that her lifetime’s experience with
Kara’s puppy dog eyes has given her some level of resistance, but Kara knows a
little bit of bottom lip wobble, combined with a ‘for the baby’ will get her
just about anything she wants.

Kara Danvers totally makes an appearance on Sesame Street as Supergirl

Kara as Supergirl, with Elmo and Grover and Big Bird (definitely with Big Bird) talking about how to deal with bullies.

Kara in her suit and and cape with that smile on her face that makes people smile back whether they meant to or not and kids trust her instantly, talking about adoptive families and getting along with your siblings. And no she can’t say who her adoptive family here on earth is, because they need to stay safe but she can talk about how much she loves them, just like she still loves her biological family even though she misses them every day.  She can talk about the times it was hard fitting in with a new family and how sometimes someone might say something hurtful (and how sometimes that someone was her) but how family means talking and forgiveness and understanding and love whether you were born into it, or you found each other (and maybe she goes home that night and she and Alex don’t talk they just hug tighter than usual and Alex’ eyes are suspiciously shiny when she steals the remote).

Kara with her chin up and her shoulders squared and her voice not shaking at all (J’onn gives her a nod when she comes back to the DEO and a quiet “good job, Supergirl,” that means everything) talking about being far from home and trying to adjust to a new culture and a new language and how it hurt when people made fun of her and how they live in a big world where a lot of people have to leave their homes sometimes for very bad reasons and how sometimes all it takes is someone holding out their hand and saying “you can sit with us at lunch” to make things a little better.

Kara kissing Elmo on the top of his head and Elmo giggling, and then floating up to hug Big Bird so he doesn’t have to bend down.

Kara definitely being invited back.

Kara and Sesame Street

Reblogging again for the heartbreaking commentary.
The Sesame Street episode I never knew I always needed.

I consider it canon that in the universe where Supergirl and Superman are real, the Muppets are real also, and Superman has sung ‘Rainbow Connection’ with Kermit at least twice.

ok but au instead of j’onn going into catco at the black mercy and winn telling cat that there was a tick winn tells a somewhat truth–they went to kara’s apartment. and she was on the floor, unconscious. and that she’s being treated right now but they don’t know what it is

like. at that point???? where cat is still angry at kara and the last words they exchanged was cat saying that she and kara should remain strictly professional but what if the reason why she was acting so strangely with adam and “broke his heart” or even bothered writing the letter in the first place and why winn was “covering for her day after day” was because kara was sick and just worrying so much?????????

like. that would be a whole other set of problems, because if cat paid for Leslie’s hospital bill she certainly would pay for Kara’s and probably be like yeah she’s getting the best doctors I can find.

Now Winn (very noticeably Winn, not Witt or hobbit or anything else, there’s no messing around) where is Kara.

and it’s not like Winn can be like you see she is at a secret government facility with a parasite exerting 100 lbs of force stuck to her chest sucking her life away and her sister is the doctor working on her yup that’s totally legal and normal and something I can explain to Cat fucking Grant

he probably ends up nervously saying that he doesnt know, her sister’s with the FBI and was there with her when she got taken away he doesnt know where she went k bye

and probably runs out of there and a lot of his sadness and nervousness is real because now they dont have the distraction of making j’onn blend in as Kara–doesn’t have his friend’s face in front of him (even if it’s not her, it’s easier to tell himself it is, that kara’s fine).

kara could genuinely die and they have no idea how to stop it

and Cat would probably head right down to HR and get Alex’s number and start spamming her with texts and calls because where is Kara do they need help she can fly in doctors from anywhere in the world just tell her what needs to be done she’ll do it.

but Alex is radio silent, which just makes everything worse in cats head (alex is admittedly pretty damn busy) because no news is the worst news she probably starts calling hospitals and simply gets told about doctor patient confidentiality or just a flat out no again and again

and then when Alex finally wakes kara up she looks at her phone and holy fuck what do they do she has so many phone calls from Cat what do they even do how do they handle this because right now she has an even more deeply traumatized than usual kara to deal with, along with non and astra and now astra is dead who knows what kara is going back to and now cat grant is blowing up her phone and they have to come up with an excuse for what happened to kara

they probably figure the simplest lie–rooted in a kernel of truth–is easiest: kara was in a coma. They figured out what it was, and now they’re just having her rest.

but lbr cat would still probably be like are you messing with me i’ve been trying to get a hold of you for hours no i am seeing her for myself tomorrow.

kara, turning on her phone: alex. alex i have 117 messages from Cat. what happened

alex, after the boys are gone: uhhhhhhhhhh so. we’re gonna have to go to the hospital the DEO sometimes uses because Winn told her you were in a coma we’ll go early tomorrow here’s more ice cream!

kara: wat

the entire thing is so awkward they gotta go to the hospital and talk to a few doctors and nurses that sometimes discreetly fix up DEO agents and have to be like so…..here’s the thing (not saying that kara is supergirl but just an agent) and in the whirlwind of stopping non and then having to create a cover story to convince cat she’s definitely been avoiding thinking about astra and the black mercy and sure physically kara is fine but she’s finally all alone as alex goes to wrangle the details out while kara is in the hospital bed she probably rapidly starts losing color because she lost all of them again. and then she lost astra, held her in her arms as she died and her friend (she thinks) was the one to do it.

which is probably when cat walks in on her, looking absolutely distraught, the kind she knows kara isn’t a good enough actor to even attempt to fake–although she cant say the same about the smile kara puts on when she spots cat because that smile is faker than max lord’s new nose

kara’s almost starts freaking out again because cat is being nice??????? cat can be kind and empathetic and righteous and wise but she is not nice–not to anyone who isn’t her sons. but here she is, insisting that Kara take time off and take care of herself more and

like…..you know have a situation where cat hiring siobhan is less seen out of spite or trying to make kara jealous and cat is like “you almost died you have to recover from that and I need an assistant I’m hiring a second one”

and so she still hires Siobhan but it’s a very different dynamic this time because like Cat Grant gets a second assistant so that the first one can relax while she’s recovering from an illness–of which she paid the hospital bills. like. instead of thinking there’s a situation with James and Kara she’s definitely like ok something is going on with Cat and Kara and tries to get on Kara’s good side as well, which Kara just freaks out about and does not comprehend (and is still jealous that Cat gets Siobhan’s name right)

but just so many different things could happen!

au where alex maggie kara and lena all went to high school together

randomthingsthatilike123:

tbh i dont really like high school aus all that much, and Lena would never be in public school while living with the Luthors so

1) They’re all in boarding school together. Eliza thought it might be good for Alex to get a change of scenery after the first year that Jeremiah died, and she was kinda feeling overwhelmed as a single parent, especially to two geniuses.

2) The school was willing to work with Kara both her SPD (sensory processing disorder, because that’s essentially what Kara has) and her off the chart math and science abilities but extremely subpar English and history. in fact

3) The only one there that can keep up with Kara is one Lena Luthor–they share a private tutor for this one. Lena has always been the best at science and math, before only Lex able to come close to touching her, she’s won every award she could for her age, received every accolade and here’s this new girl out of the fucking blue blowing everything she’s done out of the water, doing math problems that take her months to complete and parse out in just seconds

lena tries being jealous and mad but kara makes it so hard to do that she’s just so nice and friendly and doesnt treat her like she’s THE lex luthor’s baby sister (because yeah, right now lex is the golden boy who’s supposed to save the world), or that her family is richer than god–she just treats her like a friend and god she’s so pretty (but yes, imagine a little bit paris geller “get out of my school” for a bit, but a lot kara doesnt even pick up on kara is not oblivious but she was not socialized on earth, and also is dealing with a bunch of trauma and constant sensory overload ok)

3) also a lot of things lena thinks she’s doing something mean and paris geller like that to her seem like she’s sending a message to kara but by kryptonian standards that message is not “i’m top dog” but “this is my way of wooing you and proving that I would be a good match.” Poor kara is very confused when alex is like oh im so sorry you have to spend all this time with lena when she hates you and kara is like ??????? she wrote a thing in a scientific journal for me what do you MEAN she hates me

4) maggie is there on scholarship she worked her ass off and is very little and the world is hurting her and she’s like you know what maybe i’m not gay maybe i just dont like anyone. and then sees alex running towards her with her surfboard and in a bikini and is like  n e v er mIND

5) alex and kara are roommates bc siblings and they wanna keep them together but maggie and lena are also roommates and they both agree the danvers sisters should come with a warning

send me an AU and i’ll tell you 5 of my headcanons for it

Some random platonic Supercat headcanons

randomthingsthatilike123:

kara-lesbihonest:

  • Cat asks Kara one morning why she never gets herself a coffee when she picks up Cat’s. Kara tells her she can’t afford it, and Cat starts doubling her order and giving the extra to Kara every single day.
  • Cat once took Kara to dinner at a restaurant so expensive that Kara couldn’t understand half the ingredients on the menu. Cat closed a $35 million deal while surreptitiously watching Kara spit out snails.
  • Kara works from Cat’s apartment on Friday nights. Cat needs to be home with Carter, but has trouble finishing up the week by 5pm. Kara helps her by coming over after work. She sits on their expensive couches, TV playing Carter’s shows, her laptop resting on her knees while she works.
  • Kara sings, and she sings well, when she thinks no one is listening. One Friday night she stayed way too late at Cat’s and Cat convinced her to stay over in the guest room. Cat walked in to set a towel on the bed and from beyond the guest bathroom door, she could hear the strains of “Walking on Sunshine” floating in. She lingered longer than she should have and grinned like an idiot, but only because no one was around to catch her doing it.

here’s a few more:

  • Kara always lets Cat win at Settlers of Catan when they play because she knows no matter how much Cat protests to Kara she barely likes the game but Kara knows how much she really loves it. Cat finds out that Kara’s been going easy on her after seeing a leftover game from when Alex came over that Kara annihilated Alex and then “no I aM NOT POUTING KIERA GO AWAY AND GET ME THE LAYOUTS”
  • Kara and Carter teaming up to convince Cat to get a dog Cat can sometimes resist each one on her own but SHE’S HELPLESS AGAINST BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER SHE CAN’T HELP IT SHE WANTS BOTH OF THEM TO HAVE THE BEST LIVES POSSIBLE AND THEY’RE SO HAPPY WHEN THEY WENT TO THE FIRST BREEDER JUST TO LOOK AT THE PUPPIES (because c’mon she’s Cat Grant she bought a building because it had a private elevator if they’re gonna have a dog it’s going to be a dog with a pedigree that’s so extravagant that the cost of the dog could pay off Kara’s student loans)
  • When Carter brings home friends (because he’s a kind, genuine kid  who is also polite and smart–he also has very pretty eyes and dimples–once he gets out of middle school there are going to be plenty of boys and girls alike wanting him to be their friend and or boyfriend) he introduces them to Kara first because Cat can be Terrifying and Kara can be a bit more laid back than Cat and if they have Kara’s seal of approval it makes his mom relax a little bit more.
  • For Mother’s Day one year Carter bought a locket for Cat with a picture of him and Kara inside, and he asked Kara to use her heat vision to make an engraving. He had Kara practice on several other objects before she does the locket first because he is an intelligent boy who remembers what happened to his mom’s favorite necklace the time the clasp broke and Kara said she could fix it. Spoiler alert: Kara Could Not.
  • Cat paid off all of Kara’s student loans like 2 months into dating. When Kara found out Cat claimed it was the still less than the amount of money she’s saved in potential therapy costs for Carter one day thanks to Kara’s superhearing making sure that he’s never walked in on them. When Kara still protests she pays off Alex’s too. And that’s the story of how Cat meets a grumpy DEO agent for the first time.
  •  Cat starts up a non-profit focused on helping orphaned refugees. She’s heard plenty of Kara’s childhood and the language spoken on Krypton and the main religion and traditions and the different cultures but it’s not until the first time she wakes up to a crying Kara and holding the younger woman in her arms and hearing Kara shakily describe how she witnessed Krypton exploding at 13 between sobs does she actually decide to do it.

For the four headcanons meme: Alex Danvers.

musetotheworld:

I got so many of these that my answers are gonna be a little spread out, but here we go!

A- realistic: Alex only stayed in highschool her senior year for Kara. She took every AP and college credit course the school offered, and a few more they didn’t. That was the start of a major focus on her schooling and need to excel that led to the complete burnout a few years later- the one that led to her joining the DEO and finally finishing her degree.

B- unrealistic but hilarious: after calling dibs on her alien gun Alex spent weeks trying to replicate the design (and also adapt it into a rifle version for greater use in the field). Her attempts only stopped when she caused a chemical fire in the DEO labs that required a complete evacuation of three levels. J’onn was a very grumpy space dad for a week, and Maggie banished her to the couch until her hair grew back.

C- heart crushing: Alex hates the color orange now. It used to remind her of watching sunsets with Jeremiah but now it reminds her of Krypton’s sky and the night she nearly lost Kara. The night she took the life of Kara’s last real link to Krypton, the last person she loved that lived under that orange sky. And even though Alex remembers, she can’t share her memories with Kara, not without wanting to throw up.

D- unrealistic but I’ll fight canon on it: Alex wants kids, but she’s utterly terrified of actually having one. What if she’s just like her mother? What if she’s seen too much in the field and can’t be the parent her kid needs? What happens if she’s too hurt to hold a baby? (This one is only unrealistic bc the writers bungled the wanting kids storyline tbh)

What do you think Kara’s favorite video game is? Pokemon? Skyrim? World of Warcraft? Call of Duty?

comickergirl:

Ooooh, that’s a fun question! You know, I hadn’t really thought too much about it before? But taking into account what we know about Kara…perhaps we can arrive at an answer.

OKAY, SO:

– I think starting with what we know of game night is a good place to start because, well. Games. Settlers of Catan has been both mentioned and shown on the show–Carter says that Kara “plays Settlers of Catan almost as well as” Cat does. (I have to assume that Cat Grant, Queen of all Media, CEO of CatCo, is pretty great at games focused on acquiring resources.)

– They also had an epic Nerf Gun battle, according to Carter, so one miiiiiight be able to argue first person shooters, but. We lack sufficient evidence re: Kara’s Nerf skills. Sure, the battle was epic, but that doesn’t tell us how Kara fared.

– Right then! Thus far, we know that Kara’s down with longer-form, tabletop type games. Not just the lighter fair of Taboo.

– Also something to consider: One of Kara’s best buddies is Winn Schott, who can NOT ONLY provide top notch recommendations, but he would 1.) Always be down for multiplayer campaigns, 2.) could probably hook you up with some sweet, sweet mods, and 3.) is gonna have pretty much…any system/platform one might need.

– SO NO LIMITS

– Kara’s at least somewhat into fantasy. She name drops Harry Potter.

– Other things to keep in mind: Kara has a crazy schedule, so time management might be something of an issue. Kara also likes to be doing stuff–she’s not really into being idle. Might affect attention span.

– To review: familiar with more RPG-type games, into fantasy, has nerdy friends, but might need something that’s not so dense, so as to maximize on minimal time and/or attention span.

THUS, we can reasonably conclude that Kara’s FAVORITE VIDEO GAME IS:

Mario Kart. Girl loves her some Mario Kart.

XD Nah, kidding, kidding. (…Mostly.) In all seriousness, I could see her loving something like Breath of the Wild. Open world fantasy RPG that’s just as much about the journey as it is the destination. It does lack the key multiplayer component that I think would be something Kara would really want, but. The communal gaming aspect of the Switch platform itself–that you can take it and carry it around and pass it off to buddies with relative ease–might make up for that.

bridgetteirish:

argyle-s:

Okay, here is the thing.  Kara is always this big ball of energy, right, and sometimes, she just needs to burn it off.  Of course, these days, most of that takes the form of her Supergirl Shenanigans, but think about this.  Kara, in college, discovers Parkour.  At first, she’s super conservative with it, but the longer she does it, the bolder she gets, until she just becomes kind of legendary among the local Parkour groups for being completely freaking fearless.  But Kara gets really uncomfortable about all the praise, because honestly, she can’t get hurt, so she’s not taking any risks, but it makes her feel free in a way very few things do before she becomes Supergirl.

And it kind of grows from there, until Kara has tried all sorts of Extreme sports.  Mountain Biking, Wind Surfing, Kite Boarding, Base Jumping, Parasailing, skateboarding.

Now, imagine one day, Cat decides to check up on her former assistant, and does a google search, only to find dozens, if not hundreds of youtube videos of Kara doing absolutely ridiculously difficult and dangerous stunts, and she’s just sitting there, shaking her head, and wondering what it would take to get all the videos removed from YouTube.

“YOU told me to dive, Cat!”

“METAPHORICALLY, you idiot. Not off a literal cliff!”

karalovesallthegirls:

karalovesallthegirls:

I want Kara working on a project with some coworkers and them joking about her appetite being alien and her nervously saying, “well, I am.” They laugh nervously, like it was a joke, but she just stares and says with more determination, “I am an alien.”

And she looks calm but actually she’s having like five panic attacks all at once and they all shuffle in a nervous way before one awkwardly mumbles, “well, uh, that’s interesting.” and Kara kind of wants to melt into the floor but then her other coworker with a lot more tact smiles and puts a hand on her shoulder and thanks her for sharing it with them. As far as traumatic incidents go, its not too terrible

I want Kara having tension with another alien working at CatCo who is very gruff and standoffish and bright green and it ends in them having a big fight wherein Kara yells at them for not being a better example of what aliens are like and the coworker saying, “That’s easy for you to say, we can’t all pass as human like you.”

And Kara’s just stuttering out a denial but the other alien leans in close and says, “You may look like them, but you don’t smell like them. I know what you are, and the only reason you act like this is because they don’t know, too.”
