Was talking with @tomas-abe about this–have you ever thought
of a supergirl leverage au?Honestly, I’ve talked so much about how Kara isn’t a
horrible liar—she’s a phenomenal liar. She makes everyone
think she’s a bumbling, harmless, ordinary, average human—her kindness isn’t a
lie, but as we’ve seen with RedK—it is a choice. And we’ve seen her with
Clark— “you really have the clumsy thing down.” But for Clark that was real. For
Kara, it’s an act. She’s the heir to a house renowned throughout the galaxy for
its scientists—and she was about to become the youngest person in Krypton’s
history to enter the science guild. But she was told over and over and over to
be ordinary, average, unremarkable—to hide herself, hide anything that marks
her as alien. She’s a genius in a room full of preschoolers who are just now
learning concepts that she’s understood since before she could walk—of course
she’s bored with earth science.Supergirl isn’t a
lie, but it’s not quite the truth either—and neither is Kara Danvers. Both are
part of her, but at the same time they’re both personas that she embodies and
can step into almost at the drop of a hat—they are constructed and built. And
yes, when outright confronted, she is a horrible bluff—she can’t do it. But
almost everyone forgets or glosses over how much pain Kara must always be in,
the anger she carries inside of her of being the very last, of being sent away,
of being alone. They forget that she is not simply a human with powers but
forever and always Kryptonian with powers—like how everyone thinks of Clark, like
we’ve seen in Myriad how even Clark
thinks of himself, Kara never thinks of herself as human. She has a different
language and values and culture and religion and she fools everyone into
thinking that she’s just like them(for more about this,
here’s the post I made that’s a lot more comprehensive). That isn’t Kara’s
stage. This kind of complicated and woven falsehood is her stage. Sound like
anyone?Kara would totally
be a grifter. Especially a Kara who wasn’t found by Clark, who wasn’t found by
the Danvers—this is Kara without a purpose, who sees her cousin flying over
Metropolis with the house of El’s Crest on his chest and doesn’t need her. She has nothing to live for—so she wanders, constantly
pretending to be someone else and she gets good
at it. She has a soft spot for swindling people who violate environmental laws
because it’s easier—and never goes
after anyone who doesn’t deserve it. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily legal. She’s also got a soft spot for
art—it’s marvelous, in a way even Krypton never was. And grifting is something
that makes her feel alive, covering up for just a little bit the gaping hole in
her heart where Krypton used to be. And really, she doesn’t have very many
ties, or attachments—she travels light, easily able to switch identities and
leave at the drop of a hat. There’s this undercurrent of sadness in all of her
identities, even with the happiest of her personas—which just makes her a
mystery and all the more magnetic to the people she’s trying to con—she’s able
to seem so damn genuine and sincere it’s addicting. Not to mention someone who can easily see everyone’s
tells because of advance senses, hear their heartbeat and see infinitesimal
twitches and expressions that pass in a millisecond—she didn’t visibly use her powers as Cat’s
assistant, but she still kept the job for 2 years before using super speed or
strength—and that was because of how well she could read Cat, who went
through probably hundreds of assistants before finding Kara. That would be essential for a grifter. Plus, we know
that she learned English in less than a week.
An entire language in just a handful of days—being able to learn regional
dialect and adopt accents andShe goes by so many aliases, trying to run away from the
memory of krypton. But her current alias? Kiera. Kiera Deveraux.Kara woke up alone on Earth and saw her no longer baby
cousin with their family crest on his chest doing perfectly fine—he’s grown, he
doesn’t need her. How would he even know about Kara in the first place, or any
of it? Kara’s been doing this since she was 13, and now she’s probably 30
something, maybe 32. We’ve had Clark even say—Kryptonians age very slowly. She
still looks like she’s in her early 20’s. She doesn’t seem to age maybe that makes
her even more legendary but she likes to use make up to make her look older
because that truly fucks with people,
although she never goes after bad
people. One thing that is truly different from Krypton, and not in a
bad
way, or a lesser way, is the way humans create art—she loves art. And it’s something that she bonds over with their thief. As for who’s Nate, the alcoholic whose young son died
because of corporate greed, the mastermind who thinks of every contingency and
almost obsessively observes and
analyzes? Why, that’s none other than Cat Grant. Cat Grant

Tbh I can’t believe I haven’t seen a supergirl avatar Kara au.
Airbending avatar!kara, her entire nation and culture wiped out but instead of 100 years in an iceberg it was 25 years, so things are both more and less screwed than if it was just a hundred years for Kara tbh .
And fire princess!Lena, who was adopted as a child, in part to help with the Luthor’s image bc bloodthirsty and ambitious doesn’t mean stupid– they know they need to soften their image, in the interest of world Trade and continued loyalty (massacres of children don’t really sit well with ANYONE.)
But Lena is a firebending prodigy just like her older brother (some rumors have her even better than lex, but they’re just whispers, said along to crackling flames because regardless of whether or not she’s better, lex is far more dangerous, far more volatile)
(And maybe there’s also talk about Lena’s eerie green eyes–not the eyes of a proper firebender but of one descended from Earth.
and for years people thought that Clark was the avatar, the baby that was spirited away to a friendly earthbending family of farmers and that maybe he’s just a late bloomer bc he’s an El and the Els are infamous for being uber powerful benders but nope it’s Kara, who would def be used as a weapon by some less than virtuous organizations wanting to harness and experiment on the avatar (and not to mention hiding from the fire benders, who killed off the airbenders.)
Except, Kara left the temple because they were going to take her away from her parents and she panicked and left and if you guessed that she was heading in the direction of the fire nation you’d be right and if she happened to be found by a fire nation family, the danvers, you’d also be right
So they train Kara as a firebender, or try to, all the while keeping her other powers a secret and hiding in plain sight. Some days are more successful than others. Or maybe they pretend she’s a non-bender, they can’t quite give her more instruction with firebending other than how to put fires out, or make it look like firebending, not until she masters the other elements but teaching a master bender an element is noticeable , and just. So Much destruction. And they’re TRYING for subtle. And so everyone sees the shining pride of the danvers clan, their brilliant prodigy but most teachers and students just kinda overlook Kara–which is kind of the point. Everyone knows her as Alex’s sister but if they didn’t say that Kara was a distant relation from the colonies there’d be a lot of people scratching their heads as to why the noble Danvers family took in such an ordinary girl
And maybe Kara spends a lot of time in the city, kinda sorta maaaaaaybe sneaking out (she’s an airbender–she’s good at blending in when she wants to, a simple breeze lost in the wind). And maybe she runs into another girl with really pretty green eyes named Lena, who’s kind and so smart and brilliant and has she mentioned pretty and Lena just Loves how to Kara she’s just her friend and she’s judged solely on her own merits (and maybe she also loves how when Kara tells her she loves Lena’s eyes Lena believes her)
But reality sets in and Lena is a fire nation princess and Kara is the avatar and both have are sent away to learn more, and the next time they see each other?
They just may be on opposite sides of a war.
an au where kara’s pod crash lands right by fort rozz, since that was what indigo locked onto to get them all out and astra finds her instead of clark and immediately takes kara away because i’m p sure a lot of astra’s hatred of alura was bc she thought, for over 10 years, that alura didn’t heed her warning and that her pride was more important than kara’s life, but all the Fort Rozz escapees would still want Kara dead so Astra takes Kara and then they go into hiding
but Kara’s curious and wants to do more than hide and sometimes the best way to hide is in plain sight so she goes to school and sometimes uses her powers more than she should and stands out a bit more than she would have with the Danvers, more than a little bit because the Danvers at least had a baseline to be like no, no that is something you can’t do as a human and that is way beyond current human science no, you can’t correct your teacher on Newton’s laws Kara and she’d definitely seek out her baby cousin, even if he’s not so much of a baby anymore, although Astra would be right there with her and probably would get into a big fight over custody and in this version, yeah Astra wouldn’t let Kara go to a human family when Kara has her Kara’s cousin wanting to spend time with her but him dropping her off w humans to live? Yeah no, she’s not risking her niece like that.
So Clark actually spends time with Kara maybe, but more so as Clark Kent, and maybe takes Kara to visit the Danvers so she still knows Alex pretty well and Clark makes sure she’s signed up for school and help her with English and History (Clark’s no slouch in the math and department, he took Calc III, but this girl is barely a teenager and already running rings around his comprehension. His only consolation is that although Astra can keep up, it’s keeping up, not out pacing Kara.)
Tbh the main way he convinces Astra is that humans are really good at art–and look how animated Kara is after taking that one art class with people her age! And yeah, they’re still on the move and Kara would totally fly to school from like a different part of the country and have her home address be Clark’s place in Metropolis bc yeah they kinda have to keep on the move a bit–and kara wants to explore, and so does astra, she’s bored–but yeah she goes to school in metropolis
and maybe Clark’s like. shit. shit i am in my 20s wait you know who has a kid sister? Lex. What was her name again? Oh! Lena. She’s smart so she can keep up with Kara, and she seemed nice. Maybe they’ll get along! And oh yeah, Lois has a little sister, Lucy! Spoiler alert: they do.
A Luthor, a Super, and a Lane
JUST A REMINDER I NEED THIS PLEASE
Supercat Noir AU for @the-queen-of-the-light
Kara is a singer
at a speakeasy with a debt to a mafia boss and Cat is her detective neighbour. Both women have feelings for each other and as they get closer Cat learns about Kara’s situation. Of course Cat is determined to help the person she loves but Kara doesn’t want Cat to get involved.
Kara is an obsessive snapchat user. She uses it ALL the time, constantly snapping photos of food or random dogs she saw. The filters are her favorites. It drives Alex nuts when Kara sends her these elaborate snaps with three filters and stickers and little doodles … It drives Kara nuts right back when Alex just replies with a black screen or a snap of her office and just … nothing else.
“You spend way too much time on that thing.”
“Well you- you’re just no fun,” Kara grumbles, sticking out her tongue.
Lena, though. Lena goes along with Kara’s little obsession (and is maybe a little obsessed herself). She and Kara have a ridiculously long streak going and have been each other’s best friend for months on the thing. One day, Kara maybe, kinda, sorta, accidentally reveals herself as Supergirl to her because she replies to a snap from Lena while flying, and behind Kara’s smiling face Lena can see in the background an aerial shot of National City from a couple miles up.
Lena’s only response is a snap of her raised eyebrow with the text “Ummmmmmm … where the FUCK are you?!?!?!”
this photo looks like it’s from an action comedy about a rich country heiress who doesnt know how common folk dress played by melissa benoist who’s being threatened with kidnapping and is put under the protection of gay rough-and-tumble cop played by chyler leigh who has to keep her alive even though they butt heads all the time.
ive decided that melissa’s character’s name is sloane and chyler’s character’s name is beck and all of their interactions go like:
sloane: youre not driving this car. it was a gift from the clintons on my 21st birthday and i will not let you ruin it in any way. not to mention if i dont drive, i wouldve worn this driving scarf for nothing and i will not look like a damn fool today.
beck: i’m literally gonna help these bad guys murder you if you dont shut the fuck up and let me drive
