“Happy birthday, beautiful.”

She blinks up at you, like she doesn’t understand, before smiling, “D’ja eat your cupcake?” You see soot on her cheek from the fire she’d stopped earlier—a little singe at her shoulder—you’d watched the whole thing on the screens behind your desk, chewing on your lip the whole while. You know she’s perfectly capable—that this is almost nothing—but it hadn’t stopped you from worrying. You swallow down the urge you have every time—to tell her National City can save itself, that she doesn’t owe them anything—but you don’t want to have that argument again. Especially not tonight.

“Not yet,” smoothing a hand over her crown, you tell her to scooch, and when she shuffles down on the couch so that you can sit, with her head settled comfortably in your lap. Kara’s turned toward you so that she’s pressed against your stomach, and you can only imagine that the buttons of your shirt are jabbing into her, but she doesn’t seem to care. “I’m sorry,” as if it could be said quietly enough, as if that could take it back. “The days got away from me—but that’s—it’s not an excuse.” You’re combing fingers through her hair, scratching behind her ear so that she hums deep in her chest. Carter coos in his sleep, and one of his little hands uncurls from Kara’s jacket to slap lightly at her chin—obviously not pleased with the movement. Kara catching his fingers in a kiss, and they go limp against her cheek—the boy obviously asleep again.

“I forgive you,” is all she says, eyes closed, settling into your lap.

Too busy being yours to fall for someone new

A Kara/Cat fic that goes through the people Cat and Kara both fail to date because they’re too busy accidentally dating each other without realizing it. 

Starts when Kara’s still Cat’s assistant – lots of Kara scheduling dinner dates for Cat and ending up planning Cat all these really nice dates because she knows her so well. 

Moves to Cat making constant commentary on anyone Kara tries to date – listing off genuine reasons why they’re not good enough and constantly berating Kara to realize her own worth and date someone worthy of being around her. 

Then it’d be 50k words of both of them having given up on dating because of all their failed attempts and they fall into accidentally dating each other and not realizing it until one night when Cat has one more martini than usual at dinner and kisses Kara way too close to her mouth when she says goodbye and then cue Kara not being able to think about anything else for like six million years. 

Everything gets awkward and strained for like the next 20k words until someone breaks – probably Cat who is fucking done with this weird new awkward thing Kara’s doing (Kara is awkward with everyone else, but not with Cat the fuck?) – and then they make out and have lots of really not sappy at all love confessions.

Another sneeze caught Kara’s sensitive ears from across the bullpen floor. Tucked away at her desk, working on an article, Kara heard every cough and sneeze that came from Cat’s office. She also heard every edgy warning and threat of firing that Cat had been shouting at her minions all morning.

Cat hadn’t been this uptight in months. She’d been fighting off the flu for a week, refusing to go to the doctor, saying she simply didn’t have time to take away from work.

Kara had always appreciated Cat’s commitment to CatCo. She was the hardest working person Kara had ever known. But this week her girlfriend’s sense of duty was wearing on everyone. Not to mention, Cat was miserable. Kara had been staying at the Grant’s since Cat first showed symptoms of sickness. She couldn’t get sick and she was willing to do anything to make Cat and Carter happy. Those two things put together made her the perfect caretaker.

In season one when Cat would make fun of Kara’s hair I thought she was being ridiculous. It looked fine. 

But she knew something we didn’t—that Kara’s hair had the potential to look like she’s gotten it done for the prom every single day of her life.

#once again cat was pushing kara to become her greatest self via @motorcyclegirlfriends

tags are life. Seriously though, Kara has superspeed. Even if she likes sleeping in, with a bit of practice, she could probably do her hair beautifully every morning in like two minutes – while walking to work.
