One of the many things i love about the PR movie was that neither of the girls were reduced to being damsels-in-distress during the third act, something that most action movies do.
In fact, Trini and Kim were the ones who got to show off the most after getting their powers: Kim being the only one who landed smoothly during the jump over the cliff, Trini and Kim kicking Zack and Jason’s ass during training, that iconic flirt-fight over the doughnut, fighting back-to-back against the putty simulations, and Trini hitting Rita with the final blow.
On another note, the scenes where the boys shined the most weren’t related to battles. Billy was shown to be smart enough to find the crystal’s location, it was Zack’s idea to actually get to know the others and opened up first about himself, and Jason became a leader who wanted to take the responsibility of saving the world and being there for his team seriously (comforting Kim and admitting that his recklessness cost them Billy), as opposed to the boy who pulled an immature prank and let his team down.

This might be a long ass post but I’m gonna do it… Power Rangers might just be a movie – one made for the nostalgia for our younger selves but even at 28 it was evident for me that this film got me.
Scratch the surface and it teaches us so muchFriends will be the making of you- you might have just 4 ,you might have 40 ,hell you might have 400 but don’t lose them. Except them for who they are ,conquer the world together and love them forever
People can make horrible horrible mistakes- but they can be good people and they can become better people
The one who laughs the most and does reckless things might be the unhappiest and most scared person
The one who broods and hides themselves the most might be the kindest , most interesting and most loyal person you’ll ever meet
The person who fell from grace and made stupid choices can once again be trusted and surprise us all with who they can be
That having a ‘flaw’ makes a person who they are – they’ll probably be the best fucking person in the world
That people can love and respect each other despite background, ethnicity and culture
Women can work together without arguing over a boy, sizing each other up and competing
That friends can have emotional and affectionate friendships with one another
That men aren’t one dimensional human beings
Sexuality is not black and white
That despite your past, the things you’ve done, said, want to do , what you discovering about yourself it’s all ok and sometimes it’s ok not to be ok
We’ve all watched this movie and identified with one of the characters- they speak to us because they are real, more real than any movie characters I’ve ever seen and why because they are all of us. Each one of us is a power ranger
Whatever life throws at you can deal with it in your way, look to your friends and they’ll always be there. Whoever you identify with remember they are perfect in their way and nobody can say otherwise. Be a power ranger 🙌
