i’ve seen a pretty decent number of fics of Kara going into science (and that makes sense, considering she’s a genius by Kryptonian standards) but we’ve also seen that she’s a brilliant writer

i’ve never seen any talk about Kara going into law, like her mom. She can write, and clearly she can do public speeches.

Kara doing it as a way to connect to her mom, maybe becoming a public defender because these are the people most in need, and Kara with her ability to learn languages at a prodigious rate, inability to get tired, affable and charismatic personality, superspeed, and compassion would be p damn good at the job–it’s a job where she feels like she could make a difference. It’s what her mother would want from her, it’s something that–she wouldn’t have had on Krypton, but she potentially could have on Krypton.

Kara using her personal friendships with Lena and Cat and other powerful women she makes friends with to get shit done in settlements without needing to go into the courtroom, even when going up against them they keep it fair and honest and see middle grounds,

Kara being the states attorney that prosecutes all the criminals Supergirl catches, but like, prosecutes these cases RIGHT—no unnecessarily harsh sentences with an emphasis on rehabilitation and community building cause Kara ain’t blind to prosecutors powers

Kara being known for having the world’s most inopportune bladder ever cause of Supergirl emergencies but the judge lets it slide cause they all like that she gets shit done

Kara’s efforts being a model for other officials in National City and then other cities start picking up what they’re putting down

Kara making a goddamn difference as a person and not just because she can fly

Flashbacks to Kara in law school cause she she took college courses online concurrently with Alex through undergrad cause she missed her and wanted to feel connected, hence she’s still super young when she graduates with a law degree

Kara keeping it under wraps for an absurd amount of time and Cat finding out about it later “I’m not even surprised”

Kara having had a reputation at law school for being like Elle Woods 2.0

Lucy finding out and going wtf Kara you asked me for legal advice how many times and Kara just going well uhh I gotta keep up appearances but I also wanted a second opinion?

Kara’s having kept it under wraps just part of her playing dumb

Kara leaving journalism when she starts legal work because of conflicts of interest and her protege writing all these amazing stories on her and Lena grumbling about how her favorite reporter quit

Kara taking the DEO to task in court for past human rights abuses under the new alien amnesty act and J’onn being like forreal? No. He hunts down the real Hank Henshaw just to stand for his crimes cause J’onn ain’t gettin prosecutes for this

like these are pretty cool but I was also thinking of Kara that just goes straight from undergrad to law school because one of the reasons she goes to work for cat is because she wanted to work for a kickass woman in media but it’s also because she didn’t really know what she wanted to do and in this version Kara would know what path she wanted to take–shes not going to take the gap years

this is a Kara that still isn’t supergirl either–she doesn’t have anything to split her focus, and wouldn’t know either lena or cat quite yet
