How to post to the ao3 collection!

Are you done your secret santa fill and ready to post to ao3? Here’s how to do it! 

1. Go to post a new work and get your fic all ready to go—fandom, title, summary, the works! (New to ao3 and not sure how to do that? Here’s a tutorial). Don’t post yet!

2. Before you post, click on the “associations” section. Under “Post to Collections / Challenges” start typing “secretkalexsanta2018″ and select it when it comes up.

3. In the “Gift this work to” field, start typing your giftee’s ao3 username and select it from the dropdown menu. 

4. Post your work! It will stay hidden until the whole collection is revealed on December 25, so you can post it whenever you’re done. But please make sure to post it by December 20 at the latest! 

5. Whoops, you’ve posted your work already and want to edit it? You can find it here—it will be the only work visible to you until the collection is revealed. 

Any questions? Feel free to shoot me a message or an ask at this account!

3.5. Before you post your work (or you can go back and do this later if you want): 

– Under “Associations” tick the box “Set a different publication date” 

– Make sure the publication date is set to December 25th! This will put your work on the top of the Alex/Kara tag on ao3 when it’s revealed!

want a ton of kalex prompts?

The Femslash Kinkmeme just wrapped up the prompting period for this years kinkmeme. The Kara/Alex pairing (and Arrowverse in general) has been pretty well-represented for the past couple of years. If there’s anyone out there who’s hit a dry spell and wants a challenge, there’s a huge variety of prompts (for a lot of different pairings, too, if you’re interested).

It’s a pretty manual process to get all of these prompts into one place, and with the way the event is structured–prompts and fills are both attached to the meme’s Dreamwidth page–people don’t necessarily know they’re even there.

SO, I got real bored and put together a linked page of all the Kara/Alex prompts (to the best of my ability) covering all prompts for this pairing from years
2015-2018.

INCIDENTALLY, you can ALSO continue to fill prompts from past years. There’s no expiration date. So, if you don’t like what’s in this year’s meme, hit the tag for the year prior to that, or the one before that. All of the prompts should be linked to the prompt-comment on the kinkmeme’s Dreamwidth, so if you write something and decide to post it, you should be able to click on the prompt text and go right to the prompt. (If any don’t work, just let me know.)

(WARNING: The Femslash Kinkmeme is, very definitely, a kinkmeme, and prompts can and do include things like incest, and non-con, and just about any other squick or trigger you might think of, between all the different fandoms represented. Literally the second I saw that image set of Alex saying she’d murder anyone who hurt Kara that you reblogged, I immediately said out loud “Like you when you ditched her on Earth Birthday”….. apparently I’m still bitter about that.

There is a interpretation of Alex’s characterization that suggests her murder-anyone-who-hurts-Kara mentality would remain consistent, even under that circumstance.

But that being said, and as much as I felt for Kara, I did so LOVE that particular conflict.

The relationships most vulnerable to collapse are those that don’t yet know how they’d react to conflict that calls for one or both parties to confront and resolve the issue at hand. People hurt people. It going to happen in every relationship because none of us are mind-readers and toes will get stepped on, feelings will be hurt, selfishness will flare up. The response to such a conflict is the important part.

I like that Alex messes up. That she’s not perfect, even when it comes to loving Kara. I like that they misstep and hurt each other, because then we get to watch them confront and deal with those issues. We get to watch them prove there really isn’t anything in this world they can’t overcome, nothing that can tear them apart.

Alex can embody the mentality of, “I’ll murder anyone who hurts you,” without being a hypocrite because when she’s the one hurting Kara, she recognizes it and takes those steps to genuinely find a resolution in the aftermath, and she rarely ever hurts Kara the same way twice.

Now. That being said, when people hurt Kara and don’t care about Kara’s genuine feelings enough to resolve the issue, that’s when Alex starts cracking skulls.
