like listen. i don’t like labeling movies “good” or “bad” anyway bc what people really mean most of the time is “i liked it” or “i didn’t like it,” but if someone tries to tell you that Jupiter Ascending is “a bad movie but I liked it,” you ask that person, “is Star Wars a bad movie but you like it?” and if they say “no,” that person is in deep seeded denial, because I am telling you, general denizen of the internet, that the first Star Wars movie makes exactly as much sense as Jupiter Ascending does, and it is regarded as a ~classic~ with some barely acknowledged flaws, because the Chosen One is a dude. You can argue that the world-building in Star Wars is better, and you’re probably right! But let me tell you, when I was ten— Star Wars’ theoretical target age— not only did the first Star Wars not make any sense to me, but I didn’t care enough to try to sort it out, because I felt no emotional connection to it. Jupiter Ascending? Although tbh there’s a lot of world-building that makes PERFECT sense, even the parts that are completely absurd or illogical? I cared about, because it acknowledged my fantasies.
