but its going to be okay. u are going to make it through whatever the current hardship is.
u are not only going to make it, u are going to grow from it. you are going to become a version of yourself so radiant, so strong that you cannot even fathom that idea right now.
that’s why ur scared. u don’t know how ur gonna turn out. but i promise u will come out a better person because of this. u r strong, u r going to get stronger.
One time when he was 18, he was fishing and found a baby salamander someone had tried and failed to use as bait. It had a huge gash in its side and didn’t look like it would make it. He put it in the bucket he was going to put fish in and took it home, then performed “surgery” on the little guy to mend the gash. It couldn’t move, so my dad fed it and nursed it back to health until the gash was healed. Since he’d taken it in as a baby, it wasn’t equipped to stay alive in the wild, so he kept it in a giant aquarium next to his bed. It stayed alive until my sister was born six years later.
His dad took him deer hunting once when he was in middle school. They hunted all day and never saw a single deer. At the end of the day as the sun was setting, they found one, and my dad yelled at my grandpa not to shoot it because it didn’t deserve to die. He hasn’t been deer hunting since.
Two people I used to be best friends with don’t have stable parents. My dad takes them out for lunch and out fishing regularly, and even though I am not friends with either of them anymore, he still makes time for them as if they were his own kids.
Sometimes I catch him crying at videos of dogs on the internet.
One time he was crying and I asked him what was wrong and he gave me a hug and said there isn’t always a reason. I’ve held on to that.
He told me that if (if) he dies, he wants to die by being drowned in a horde of puppies because otherwise, what’s the point?
He makes sure to say “I love you” to my mom and me every day, because he once told me he never once heard it from his parents as a kid.
Saw my mom looking at a bird, so he found out what kind of bird it was and drew a picture of it for her.
Heard me crying after a hard day and brought me a box of milk duds, because even though I’m lactose intolerant, it was an occasion on which they were needed.
Shows me every day that men who feel allowed to be open, vulnerable, soft, and emotional are so much happier than men who are told to keep it all inside.
also, to bring my point across, he signed us up for a father-son derby race this year (even though I am a daughter and also an adult lol). we spent like two weeks working on this car. it caught on fire but we won for creativity
and still my dad remains blissfully unaware of the fact that this post exists and also the fact that it has almost 11,000 notes. omg. I was not expecting this kind of reaction.
OKAY I WORK IN A FABRIC STORE AND ONE TIME THIS LITTLE OLD LADY CAME UP TO ME AND SLAMMED THE INDEPENDENCE DAY ONE DOWN ON THE COUNTER AND SAID, “THIS. THIS IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY NEEDS.”
I had an older man come into the fabric store that I used to work in and dropped 3 bolts of the firefighter one on my counter and said, “I need this. I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it, but I need it.” a man behind him then yelled, “Pyjamas!” and the first man said, “My husband recommends pyjamas.”
“My cousin Helen, who is in her 90s now, was in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. She and a bunch of the girls in the ghetto had to do sewing each day. And if you were found with a book, it was an automatic death penalty. She had gotten hold of a copy of ‘Gone With the Wind’, and she would take three or four hours out of her sleeping time each night to read. And then, during the hour or so when they were sewing the next day, she would tell them all the story. These girls were risking certain death for a story. And when she told me that story herself, it actually made what I do feel more important. Because giving people stories is not a luxury. It’s actually one of the things that you live and die for.” –Neil Gaiman
Sometimes I feel like a selfish, useless bitch for using my life to tell stories instead of majoring in mechanical engineering or challenging sexism and brutality in the police force. Then something like this comes along and remember that while I may just be telling stories, I’m also creating comfort for people who need it, and a war cry to rally around in times of need.
Stories are really important, but the people who make them sometimes forget that. So keep telling them how much their stories have meant to you. It will give them the strength to keep telling them.
for the self-conscious beginner: No one makes great things
until the world intimately knows their mediocrity. Don’t think of
your writing as terrible; think of it as preparing to
contribute something great.
for the self-conscious late bloomer: Look at old writing as how far
you’ve come. You can’t get to where you are today without covering all
that past ground. For that, be proud.
for the perfectionist: Think about how much you complain about things you love—the mistakes and retcons in all your favorite series—and how you still love them anyway. Give yourself that same space.
for the realist: There will be people who hate your story even if
it’s considered a classic. But there will be people who love your
story, even if it is strange and unpopular.
for the fanfic writer: Your work isn’t lesser for not following canon. When you write, you’ve created a new work on its own. It can
be, but does not have to be, limited by the source material. Canon is not the
end-all, be-all.
for the writer’s blocked: It doesn’t need to be perfect. Sometimes you have to move on and commit a few writing sins if it means you can create better things out of it.
for the lost: You started writing for a reason; remember that
reason. It’s ok to move on. You are more than your writing. It will be here if you want to come back.
you don’t have to look for reasons to buy yourself a latte, to sleep in, to take time off training, to slow down. you are human – allow yourself to be. don’t go through life avoiding the things that would add a little extra happiness in your day because it feels undeserved. you are not perfect but that doesn’t mean you need rules.
please don’t hold yourself together with strings of apologies and excuses. you are so much more than that.
is there ever that one celebrity that no matter what mood youre in, if you feel like crap you just see a picture of them and you just smile and think “thank you for existing” because they have made your day brighter even if you don’t really know them
the correct answer is:
This is the correct answer. Did you know that when she finds out a studio has asked an actress to lose weight she contacts them and yells at them?
I did not know that, but I do remember an interview where she said she keeps her Oscar in her downstairs loo, because that’s the one her guests use, so they can just go use the loo and don’t have to ask if they can hold her Oscar. Plus then they’ve got the mirror so they can practice their acceptance speeches.
