Gertrude the Hellhound Service Dog

sandstonesunspear:

Thanks to @nerdsbianhokie for the idea and @go-sullivan for being my sounding board for a bit.

In hindsight, Alex really should have seen it coming. Waking up from a two week long coma after suffering considerable brain trauma without serious deficits rarely happened. So maybe she had been just a slightly arrogant enough to think that she was one of the rare cases. Could anyone blame her? She was Alex Danvers, slayer of Hellgramites and Kryptonians. She had piloted a Kryptonian shuttle into space, saved Supergirl and, despite having taken a brunt of the Myriad wave, had ended up in better shape than more than 200,000 people.

my ko-fi, if you’re so inclined

Promise me you won’t let anything happen to him.

Kara takes in a stray cat, because of course she does. A stray kitten no less.

“It was the only survivor in its litter – I don’t know what got them – a dog or a fox maybe?” She’s pacing and wringing her hands. “Except it was in like downtown so probably not a fox? And I took him to the vet and the vet says he needs to be bottle fed kitten formula every four hours because he’s only barely more than two weeks old and Alex is going to kill me if I ask for another night off Supergirl duty. I know you probably have a million better things to do and I’d ask someone else if I could because I’m sure you don’t want to but there’s no one else and do you think you could just take care of him for one night? Just one and I’ll find someone else I swear.”

She finally stops pacing. The floor is worn beneath her feet. Cat keeps her face carefully neutral, while Kara’s mouth sits in a tight frown.

“When you finally confirmed you were Supergirl, this was not exactly the type of help I expected to offer you,” Cat says.

I call upon the fan fic writing gods to bless you with the perseverance to finish one of your unfinished drafts.

May your fingers dance along the letters upon your device with ease, may the devil of distraction stay far from you, and may your work not need much editing.

I pass this blessing upon every fan fic writer out there.

I desperately need this blessing for myself but pass it along to all other writers in need as well. ❤❤❤❤❤

Right at this moment, I am in need of this. Now everyone prosper. Go forth. Be fruitful and multiply your words…

How do you tag ace pairings? I have a lot but i don’t want to disappoint people who are here for smut.

ao3commentoftheday:

use the & to denote a ship is platonic

use / to denote a ship is romantic/sexual

[I remember this because that’s where “slash fic” gets its name]

If you’re worried, I’d make it clear in the summary as well. A lot of people don’t know about the difference in the two ship tags. But for the record? There are a lot of people out there who love fic without smut 🙂

I’d like to respectfully disagree with this! Or, sort of.

A relationship that is romantic but not sexual should still be tagged with the / —as anon said ace “pairings” this is what I assume they’re referring to! I would also tag the fic with “asexual character” or something similar to make it clear for readers—this is a tag I often search by because it’s one I often see used. Overall, if it’s romantic, regardless of whether it’s a sexual relationship, it’s still a pairing. (For example, you can still have a fic with a “/“ romantic pairing that’s rated G.)

Honestly, I think that’s clear enough to make it clear to those expecting smut that smut isn’t there, and if not, the lower rating should do the job. Those searching for smut can always search by rating too! And there is so much smut out there and so comparatively few fics with ace relationships, and I know a lot of people (myself included!) are desperate to find them. I would focus more on making fic searchable for the audience who really wants to read what you’re writing and worry less about those who don’t 🙂

As for queerplatonic relationships or other relationships between characters that are both ace and aro, I have no idea, but would love to hear what others think!

Headcanon: Because of who Clark’s two closest friends are (superhero-wise) she’s spent lots of time with individual sidekicks and for Lena, it’s basically just like something she needs to really get accustomed to because Kara despite never being a sidekick for her cousin is still besties with the rest.

the-queen-of-the-light:

I am SO here for Kara being best buds with the entire BatFam and Justice League (y’all should go see this cute drawing by @battenthecrosshatches )

Like, Lena is just so thoroughly confused by how little ol’ CatCo junior reporter, Kara Danvers, seems to be besties with big names like Bruce Wayne and Kate Kane and Diana Prince. Where did she even meet them?? Lena always wonders

Just imagine, Kara’s known Bruce almost as long as she’s been on Earth. Her cousin and him had a bit of a tense relationship at the time, but Kal still trusted Bruce with her. So whenever he saw her, Bruce just sorta took Kara under his wing like he did with the rest of his BatFam kids. It was great because they became sort of like a second family to her, with the kids becoming like her cousins and Bruce like her honorary cool uncle.

And one day, Lena calls Kara to see if she wants to meet up to get some food, and Kara has to apologize profusely, “I’m so sorry Lena! I already have plans! My Uncle Bruce is only going to be in town for a little bit longer, and we were planning to get brunch before he had to leave! Actually …” And Lena tries to say it’s fine, that they can get dinner later, but somehow finds herself being dragged out to a fancy brunch with eggs benedict and mimosas and Bruce Wayne?!?!? (”That’s your Uncle Bruce, Kara?!?!?!?!?!)

How’d I end up laying naked with you I was stone cold stupid sober so I can’t blame the drink Do a supercat prompt with these lyrics from my fav ever musical pleaseeeee and thank you, you gift to this world. NC x

lost-your-memory:

The moonlight was softly brushing the muscles of Kara’s back, making the skin sparkle and glow in its glorious nakedness. An ocean of sun kissed hair was spilling in waves on the white pillowcases, golden strands that looked like silver in the darkness of the night and there was the shadow of a smile, floating softly across Kara’s lips.

Cat stared, too amazed to even remember to breathe, wondering how on Heaven and Earth, she had end up spending the night with the girl who once was her assistant, who also happened to be an alien, the girl of Steel herself.
She didn’t even drink more than two martinis and to her, it was like drinking water given the very, very high tolerance to alcohol she had cultivated since her crazy year in college.

“Stop thinking, more sleeping.”

Kara’s whisper took her by surprise and she startled a little when two strong arms came to circle her waist, pulling her closer to the warm and half-asleep body laying by her sides.

“You’ll think about it tomorrow and you’ll probably flee but that alright. I’ll chase you,” Kara mumbled without opening her eyes, and her words crashed onto Cat’s skin like a summer breeze, bold and yet soft, relaxing.

“You will?” Cat hated how unsure and insecure she sounded but she could already sense the anxiety tingle at the tip of her fingers and spreading in her veins like a wildfire.

“I will,” Kara replied and even though she was already falling back asleep, there was such a steeled edge in her voice, in her simple words, Cat felt the fire of her doubts slow down and then stop, leaving her exhausted but at peace.

“Thank you,” She whispered before placing a soft kiss at the corner of Kara’s lips, making a wide but sleepy smile appear. She buried herself into the embrace of the girl of steel’s arms and fell back asleep to the sound of their synchronized heartbeats.

12 for SuperCat? Thanks :)

12. For some reason, I’m attracted
to you.

“You should ask her out.” Carter’s words ring
through Cat’s office the second that the door closes behind Kara’s retreating
form, the other woman having come to see Cat for advice about an article that
she was thinking about writing.

“I should what?”
Cat asks, aghast, staring at Carter where he sits on one of her white couches, dutifully
doing his homework.

“Kara,” he says, without even lifting his head. “You
should ask her out.”

“Why on earth would I do that?”

13. Do you ever think we should stop this?

Cat poses the question one night when they’re
lying in bed, sweat cooling on their skin, tangled up in the sheets and each other,
waiting for their heartrates to return to normal.

“Do you ever think we should stop this?” Cat
asks, voice quiet in the otherwise silent bedroom, and Kara twists so that she’s
facing Cat, propping her head up on her elbow and trying not to look too
pleased about the way that Cat’s eyes flicker down to her chest when the sheets
pool around her waist.

“Stop what?”

“This.” Cat’s lying flat on her back, staring up
at the ceiling, and gestures a hand between the two of them. “You and me.
Sleeping together.”

Polyrhythms

dangersuntoldhardshipsunnumbered:

Nakia watches Okoye in training drills with the Dora Milaje.  She admires the way they move as one; their steps in rhythm with each other’s, all following the same rhythm; the sound of Okoye’s hands beating out a complex rhythm that they must follow without faltering.

Step.  Step.  Thrust. Step.  Back. Withdraw.  Strike.  Step.  Step.  Back.

Okoye’s voice is lifted, singing against the rhythm she is clapping out.  She does not sing for ornamentation, for entertainment, but her voice is strong and rich.  It thunders from the pit of her chest as she sings a song about the panther god, his lithe grace and fearsome power.  Nakia thinks that Okoye is touched by the panther god too.  The rhythm of her song fits against the beat she claps out but it is free of it, also.  They are two systems, independent and separate, that wind around each other perfectly.

Step.  Step.  Thrust. Step.  Back. Withdraw.  Strike.  Step.  Step.  Back.

The Dora all move in time with it.

Nakia’s eyes follow the red and gold of their armor as they weave the steps, formation perfect, like a cluster of Nandi flame blooming in the trees.  And Okoye’s bloom is always brightest to Nakia’s eyes.
