Today on Phrases That Made Me Feel Really Old:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Modern AU

oh my gods

*chinhands* Buffy and the scoobies with smart phones.

Do vampires show up on cameraphone screens, or camperaphone pictures?

Xander acts as Buffy’s cameraman, Buffy becomes masked youtube star, doesn’t have to work at crap jobs. Dudebros claim her acrobatics are totally fake but have a hard time replicating the process ‘she must have used’. Vids of faceplanting dudebros all over youtube.

Willow creating and updating digital version of Giles’ monsterbook archive, with camera shots, except where monsters don’t show up on camera, those are still gifs of woodcuts. The whole section of the show involving ‘well, what did it look like?’ shifts from ‘um, forky handed sort of thing’ to ‘we’ve told you, shoot with the moon BEHIND you’, and there’s a yearly Upgrade episode where the scoobies check out phones with the best built in low light cameras that’s its own feature on youtube.

BUFFY WITH A YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND A PATREON

(come on though, Andrew is her cameraman)

I was thinking about this last night and I hadn’t even thought of a youtube channel but honestly they could totally set up a patreon – “Support your local Slayer!” We know the local populace, at least the people who went to high school with her, know she’s out there kicking ass and taking names. It’s not like it’s hard to market “pay my bills so I can spend more time fighting evil.”

Willow’s archive starts off as a private thing but someone – maybe Tara, maybe Xander – points out that lots of people could benefit from knowing What’s Out There. Willow and Giles reluctantly put parts of the archive online and it’s surprisingly popular – this is Sunnydale, after all. They end up with a giant online database of thousands of things that go bump in the night, including noticeable traits, weaknesses, history, origin, everything except for how to summon them. No one has the patience or the time to set up or monitor any forums, but they make a twitter or a blog to field questions. Tara mostly ends up running it and despairs of all the bad spelling.

Dawn decides she wants to help and starts scanning social media for monster sightings. They start finding monsters much faster, especially once she takes over the monster database blog and turns it into a Sunnydale Monster Tracker. People start volunteering information about demons and witchcraft and arcane rituals – this is Sunnydale, after all.

The blog still answers monster questions, but since Dawn doesn’t know much herself she ropes Anya into it and they do “Q&A Sessions With an Ex-Demon!” It’s ridiculously popular and also just ridiculous. Dawn starts filming it and it turns into a weekly thing on the Slayer youtube channel.

… Buffy the vampire slayer retold in vlog form like the Lizzie Bennet Diaries … just sayin’

I wish they would do something like this in the comics. They aren’t bad, but this would be awesome!

i love all of this but i think it would start in the very first season because
